Introducing Students to basics of IP Market Analysis

Bheki Zulu, Specialist from Wits TTU presenting the basics of IP Market Analysis

Despite it being a Saturday, more than 20 prospective student market analysts, made their way to WITS Plus, eager to learn about the fundamentals of conducting market analysis and hopefully make the cut into the Wits Tech Transfer office (TTU) register of student market analysts. The seminar, presented by specialists from the TTU, provided an interactive platform for students to understand the tools and techniques of conducting a market analysis on a Wits technology. The seminar covered the fundamentals of 'Market Analysis' together with an overview on intellectual property (IP) management.

At the end of the presentations, students worked in small groups to analyze various case studies which they also took home to prepare a final report. The final report will give them entry into the register; where-after the TTU may contract these students to conduct analysis on various technologies from the Wits IP portfolio. The participants included a number of students from various faculties including Science, Engineering & the Built Environment, Commercial Law & Management, Health Sciences and Humanities. Judging by the turnout and feedback received from the participants, the event was successful and has left the participants with greater insight on the basics of conducting a market Analysis. The TTU is looking forward to working with this enthusiastic group of students in the near future. For more information on the programme, click here.
