The School of Accountancy together with Wits Enterprise offer short courses in Governance, Risk and Ethics; Corporate Reporting; Business Analysis; Advanced Performance Management; Advanced Financial Management; Advanced Taxation and Advanced Audit and Assurance. The syllabus and learning objectives of each short course are aligned to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Professional level exams. These short courses are designed to prepare (provide lectures and tuition) to students in preparation for the ACCA Professional level exams.
The course is designed to equip the student to be able to apply relevant knowledge, skills and exercise professional judgement in selecting and applying strategic management accounting techniques in different business contexts and to contribute to the evaluation of the performance of an organisation and its strategic and operational development. The course comprises of five components that include the strategic role of management accounting as a discipline for planning and controlling performance; the impact of external factors on strategic management issues and how they can be measured and managed; the issues relating to performance measurement systems and their design at an operational level; the scope and application of high-level performance measurement techniques in a variety of contexts and lastly, as an advisor be able to assess and control the performance of an entity, including the recognition of whether a business is facing difficulties or possibly failure.

Certificate of Competence
The competence based short courses provide lectures, tutorials and assessments. The competence based short courses is aimed at students who have a Bachelor of Commerce (General) who would like to pursue a Post Graduate Diploma in Specialised Accountancy (PGDIP) but do not meet the minimum application requirements for the PGDIP. Each short course is fully aligned to courses offered in the PGDIP and the ACCA professional level syllabus. The competence based short courses allows students to register and work towards meeting the minimum requirements to be eligible to apply for the PGDIP and at the same time have the opportunity to complete some of the courses offered in the PGDIP. At the discretion of the PGDIP coordinator, once a student meets the admission requirements for the PGDIP, they will then be able to utilize the credits obtained from the competence based short courses towards the credits required for the PGDIP. Please note, the maximum credits a student may utilize from the competence based short courses for the PGDIP may not exceed 50%.

The attendance based short courses provides lectures and tutorials only. The attendance based short courses is aimed at students who require lectures and tuition in preparation for the ACCA professional level exam. Each short course is fully aligned to the ACCA professional level syllabus.
